NPOs equip learners with knowledge

KwaThema - Equal Education partnered with the Tsakane Youth Development Programme and Sunville Community Project to raise awareness and educate learners about substance abuse at Zithembeni Primary School, in KwaThema, on Monday.

These NPOs aim to eradicate substance abuse in the community of Kwatsaduza through engaging and equipping the youth with information and knowledge about the dangers of abusing substances.

Kgotso Moloi (18), from Equal Education, says it is not worth erecting schools and other infrastructure in the community if there won’t be any future generations.

Moloi believes South Africa’s future is in danger with the way the youth of today abuse substances.

“If we don’t instil values and life skills in our youth at a very young age, we are running a risk of having a generation of young people who are involved in alcohol and drug abuse,” says Moloi.

He added that, as a young person himself, he knows there are many young people who fall victim to such circumstances because of pressing issues in their personal lives.

Motivational speaker Lehlohonolo Khutoane (30) spoke to the learners about self discipline, the importance of focusing on their studies and the dangers of succumbing to peer pressure.

“Learners need to be made aware about the challenges they will face in future and be well aware of the dangers of abusing alcohol and drugs,” says Khutoane.
