Learner gets first prize for reading

Tsakane - On Wednesday, Khanyisile Ntshangase (13), from Sizuzile Primary School in Tsakane, won the Strongest Link Competition hosted by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

The competition required learners from local schools to read three                         vernacular novels and thereafter judges asked them questions about the books.

Sizuzile Primary School teacher, Betty Msibi (50), explained the relevance of such competitions by saying they encourage learners who are not interested in reading, to read and learn.

“I’m proud of my student, she has shown immense interest in literature and I encourage her and others to read books in English and vernacular,” says Msibi.

She wants more of her students to enter the competition next year.

Ntshangase received a cash prize of R2 000 and her fellow learner, Connie Kobe (10), who claimed third place, received a R1 000 cash prize.
