Cheshire Home for the Disabled hosts a fun walk

Daveyton - Last Saturday Elethu Cheshire Home for the Disabled hosted a 5km fun walk, from the home in Sihoko Street right around the block back to the home, where participants engaged in an aerobic class.

The fun walk, that was made possible by a number of local businesses and donors, was aimed at raising awareness about the home’s services and what the community can do to assist.

Centre manager, Samantha Stevenson (32), explained the importance of getting the community involved in the home through activities and how fun walks allow residents to know exactly what is going on in the home and how they can become involved and assist the Elethu Cheshire Home for the Disabled.

“The home has been around for over two decades but we still need people to come and volunteer so we can give our home’s residents the best care,” says Stevenson.

She adds that this is their first attempt at hosting a fun walk and that with the overwhelming response, they may make it a quarterly event.

Resident, Nomazizi Zulu (34), says the fun walk was a great way of raising awareness, and now that members of the community know what is going on within the home, it will be easier for them to reach out and help.

“There is a lot that we can do as community members to help out at the home and I believe that many of us have seen, where we can assist,” says Zulu.
