Leaking water meters cause problems

Tsakane - Residents of Colwen Street in Extension Eight are fed up with the leaking water meters along this road.

Community members claim they have been living with this problem since last year and nothing has been done about it.

Resident Paulina Dagane (50) says they have been to the Tsakane Customer Care Centre to report the matter and were told people will be sent to attend to the problem.

They are still waiting.

“There is stagnant water and we have to watch where we step all the time, and at night, it’s even worse” says Dagane.

She believes children are not safe playing in the street because they may slip and fall, and injure themselves.

Poppy Majola (57) says even the refuse removal services don’t pick up the rubbish this street because of the water.

Residents have resorted to taking their dustbins to the nearest street or dump their rubbish in a nearby open space.

“We are tired of living like this, we want the problem to be fixed before the rainy season comes and we have a bigger problem,” says Majola.

Ward councillor for the area, Nomalanga Mnguni, says he isn’t aware of the problem but will attend to it as soon as possible.
