Giving young people a chance

KwaThema - Local businessman Andile Sikhwebu (40) has employed 335 young people around Kwatsaduza at his new insurance company.

Sikhwebu, who has been in the insurance business for 10 years working for various insurance companies, saw an opportunity to open his own business catering for the community of Kwatsaduza.

He says what motivated him to start his own insurance company were the masses of young people, some of whom possess qualifications and have skills, were unemployed.

Sikhwebu has employed consultants, call centre agents and administrators, all of whom have received the necessary training.

“We have employed people who don’t have any work experience and no qualifications and have put them through intensive training,” says Sikhwebu.

New employee Tebogo Phasha (25) says he is happy there is a local company willing to employ young people without experience or qualifications, and is willing to train them.

“We struggle as young people to get employment because of no experience and qualification, and I wish other companies would also give young people a chance,” says Phasha.

The company currently has a branch in KwaThema and they are in a process of opening another branch in Duduza.

Sikhwebu adds he wants to open more branches in townships across the country so the business is accessible to his target market.
