Sporting issues addressed in Duduza

Duduza - On Thursday, the Guateng MEC of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Molebatsi Bopape, visited Duduza

The visit was part of a campaign undertaken by government to meet with community members and hear their grievances first hand.

The MEC visited a number of government facilities to check the conditions and the management of these facilities, and expressed her disappointment with the condition of the Multi-Purpose Centre and Sports Complex.

She encouraged residents to take care of these facilities because they were built for them.

Residents were given an opportunity to raise their concerns and ask questions about the progress made by different government departments.

Many community members were concerned about the lack of sports in Duduza, explaining it may be the reason why there is a high rate of teenage pregnancy and substance abuse.

The MEC suggested that residents and youth form themselves into different sporting teams and the government will in turn assist with facilities.

Housing issues were also addressed as it was highlighted to be a common issue around townships in Gauteng.

Resident Mampho Mofokeng (40) says people are becoming impatient with housing issues and hopes government will speed up the process.

“We have been waiting for our RDP houses for years now and each year we are promised that our houses will be built,” says Mofokeng.
