Suspect killed during shoot-out

KwaThema police killed a suspect during a shoot-out, last Thursday at 8.20am.

The shoot-out came to the fore after a high speed chase between the police and four suspects in Sefoloshe Street.

The two SAPS members were on a routine patrol when they were stopped by a woman who alleged that four suspects robbed her of her cellphone.

KwaThema police acting spokesperson, Col Martie van der Merwe, says the woman claimed the suspects were driving a silver grey Toyota Corolla and fled in the direction of Vilakazi Street, Rest in Peace, KwaThema.

Van der Walt said while the police were listening to the woman, she recognised the vehicle driving past them.

A high speed chase ensued and the police managed to stop the vehicle.

It is believed the four suspects jumped out of the vehicle and started shooting at the police.

The police returned fire and one of the suspects was killed during the shoot-out.

Van der Walt says paramedics declared the 20-year-old suspect dead on the scene.

The other three suspects are still at large.

Anyone with information to assist the police in their investigation can phone 011 812 4612.
