Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says the victim was on her way home from a tuck shop, at around 7pm, when the suspect demanded money from her.
He says according to witnesses, the suspect assaulted the victim and robbed her of an undisclosed amount of cash.
“The victim was rescued by community members, from the suspect who continued to assault her after taking her money,” says Ramphora.
The suspect was later arrested and a case of assault is being investigated by the Springs police.
He will appear soon in the Springs Magistrate Court.
