Organisation hopes to nurture more entrepreneurs

KwaThema - White City Jabavu Rebirth, a new organisation, aims to assist the youth in gaining entrepreneurial and life skills.

The White City Jabavu Rebirth was formed in March this year and has five members between the ages of 20 and 45.

According to organisation’s chairman, Ignatius Mandla Phakathi, the organisation hopes to educate residents of White City section about the importance of the economy, heritage and tourism while also discouraging xenophobic attacks in the township.

He says the organisation has different programmes for youth and senior citizens which will assist them on entrepreneurship and educate them around the history of the White City section.

“It is our plan to host a marathon which will be run from White City section in KwaThema to White City in Soweto,” says Phakathi.

The marathon will be aimed at encouraging young people to get involved in sport.

According to Phakathi many young people in the townships are involved in drugs because they have lost hope of a better future and have nothing to do.

“We want to ensure that the youth is able to make ends meet and do not only depend on the government’s child support grant and their grandparents’ pension to survive,” he says.

Mzukisi Gxego, general secretary of the organisation, believes that the organisation will motivate residents from other sections of KwaThema to strive to help the youth change their lives for the better.

“Our organisation fights for economic growth in this township by organising educational workshops to help residents start and maintain businesses in the township,” concluded Gxego.
