Dog fighters’ case postponed for the trial

Tsakane - The case against 18 people accused of being involved in dog-fighting has been postponed to September 22.

Members of the Beauty without Cruelty and Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) were seen protesting outside the court.

The 18 accused, aged between 24 and 50 years old, face charges in terms of the Animal Protection Act No 71 of 1962.

They were arrested in 2013 when police closed down a dog-fighting ring in Tsakane.

They appeared in the Nigel Regional Court today (Tuesday) before magistrate Johno Voogte.

Following a number postponements already, Voogte again postponed the case for the start of the trial on September 22.
