Children get toys from the department of health

KwaThema – The district department of health in partnership with Ekurhuleni donated toys to the children at KwaThema Stimulation Centre on Friday.

More than 80 children between the ages of six months and 18 years received toys, blankets and a free cup of soup from the department.

The visitors also painted the centre and spent time feeding the children.

Ward Councillor, Wilson Busakwe thanked the department for bringing smiles to the faces of the children at the centre.

He encourages parents with children at the centre to love them and always strive to provide the best for them.

“Every child deserves love and to be happy,” says Busakwe.

Speaking on behalf of the department, district deputy director for health programmes, Deliwe Kodisang says the department wants to make the children in that centre feel loved and special.

She explains that the toys that they donated were collected from the department’s employees who want to bring a smile to the faces of the children.

“The donation is to motivate the community to take care of their children despite the disability which they have,” says Kodisang.

She continues to encourage parents not to hide their children from the community because they are disabled.

Founder of the stimulation centre, Mirriam Mndebele says she is grateful for what the department has done for the centre.

She says the toys donated to the children will help them when doing hand exercises and will keep them happy.

“Children get excited and show that they are healthy by playing,” Mndebele says.

She appeals to the community not to discriminate against children with disabilities.
