Matriculants explore different careers

Duduza - On Friday A New Leaf, in partnership with the NYDA and the Department of Economic Development, hosted a career expo for matric learners at the Duduza Multi Purpose Centre.

The expo aims to help learners who will be furthering their studies next year, choose the right career paths and the suitable institutes.

Chairperson of A New Leaf, Lebogang Thubisi (29), says they want to expose learners to various career paths that they may follow and also assist them with applying for and acquiring bursaries.

“There are many careers that the youth may not be aware of and we want them to take advantage of all the opportunities that are available to them,” says Thubisi.

Adding that young people need to start working towards their goals as early as Grade Eight, so it may be easier for them to choose their subjects that will determine which careers they may be able to go into.

Learners received career guidance from different professionals and motivational talks about peer pressure and focusing on their studies.

Vuyo Majola (20), a learner from a local high school, explained the need for them as matriculants to attend these expos so they may get more information about making informed decisions about their future.

“We are grateful for such organisations who continuously educate and give us information about different institutes and career guidance,” says Majola.

A New Leaf will also be issuing bursaries to matriculants who excel in their studies to go and study at various institutes next year.
