Former students donate to school

Duduza - The Zakheni Primary School class of '87 donated 74 pairs of school shoes and sanitary towels to learners at the school on Friday.

This is one of their many projects that they have been doing for the school for the past few years.

The class of ’87 felt the need to give back to the school that gave them the fundamentals of their academic careers.

Simphiwe Dlamini (41), one of the former students explained the importance of giving back to the learners that are from disadvantaged homes and assisting them with basic school needs.

“We want to show appreciation to the school and it’s staff, and as a way to show appreciation we wanted to do something good for the current learners,” says Dlamini.

Recipients of the school shoes were identified by class teachers and the sanitary towels were given to senior girls.

Khethiwe Mahlangu (38), says that young girls should not be without sanitary towels, because it is a basic need for any girl child.

“We understand that some of the children cannot afford sanitary towels on a monthly basis and this is an issue we want to address and try and solve,” says Mahlangu.

School principal Paul Mnguni, expressed his gratitude to the former students and encouraged them to continue to give back to the school and the community.

“This is the positive behaviour we want our youngsters to have when they leave the school, to give back and show ubuntu to their fellow community members,” says Mnguni.
