Gule family smiles on Mandela Day

Tsakane - This year’s Mandela Day celebration will forever be in the minds of the Gule family in Tsakane.

The police in partnership with the youth desk, social crime prevention unit, Twin Plugs Entertainment and Tai-Chi Foundation spend their 67 minutes on Friday, July 17, visiting the Gule family in Tsakane Extension 19.

66-year-old gogo Marita Gule supports her 14 grandchildren, who are between the ages of one and 22, and was grateful for the food parcels and clothes the Tsakane police donated to the family.

“Sometimes, I wonder where the next meal to feed my family will come from,” said Gule, adding that the clothes donated to her family will help them keep warm this winter.

Captain Petros Mabuza of the Tsakane police said the police identified the family after they received information from a youth desk member about the family’s circumstances.

Mabuza said the family depends on gogo Gule’s part-time jobs to survive. “Gule works two days a week and the money that she gets is not enough to feed everyone in her family.”

Gule explained that the family’s situation worsened after the death of her husband in January this year. Gule’s late husband supported the family with his old age pension grant.

Gule thanked the police for what they have done for the family and said she is grateful that the police remembered to assist her family.

Mabuza promised that the police will visit the family again and hopes to improve the family’s circumstances.
