Resident to donate a blanket to a lucky senior citizen

KwaThema - To encourage Kwatsaduza residents to take care of the elderly, Josephine Mabathoana (57), from Geluksdal, will be giving away a blanket to one lucky granny from Kwatsaduza.

The blanket, which she started to knit in December, is her way of showing care to the community’s senior citizens.

Mabathoana, a food service supervisor at the KwaThema police station, used her own money to buy the material needed to knit the blanket.

After realising that there are senior citizens who have no blankets to keep them warm when it is cold, Mabathoana made it her responsibility to ensure that she donates at least one blanket to one senior citizen.

“My heart was bleeding after I saw an 80-year-old woman going to get her pension money with no blanket to keep her warm and protect her from the freezing weather that day,” said Mabathoana.

She encouraged the youth to take care of the elderly and to ensure that senior citizens are protected against the winter cold.

Captain Mandla Phori of KwaThema police said they are proud of what Mabathoana has done and encouraged her to continue to show love and care to the community.

He said Mabathoana is setting a good example for other residents to follow. “We are proud that she is doing something good for the needy in the community.”

Phori challenged the youth to help the senior citizens living in their communities.
