Mandela Day celebrated with a fun walk

Duduza- To commemorate Mandela Day, the Duduzekani Tshidisehang Community Project (DTCP) in partnership with the Duduza Community Policing Forum (CPF) and other organisations hosted a community fun walk.

The fun walk started in Nala Street in Duduza. The aim of the walk was to continue the awareness against substance abuse in the community and to engage with community members around the high rate of substance abuse in Duduza.

Flyers were distributed as the marched proceeded and loaves of bread were given to community members as a token of giving back.

Katiso Rantlha (43), chairperson of the DTCP, says the fight against substance abuse is an ongoing one and that the organisation will continue to raise awareness as frequently as they can.

“Drugs are a big issue in our community. More and more young people are falling victim to nyaope and we need to intervene as responsible community members,” says Rantlha.

Siphiwe Kubeka (40), DTCP treasurer and a community member, says that it is of importance that the youth of today engage in positive programmes and educate themselves about the dangers of using drugs.

“If we don’t tackle the issues that are faced by our youth, we will not only fail the youth of this generation but also fail our duty as community members,” says Kubeka.
