What Mandela Day means to charities

Kwatsaduza - Mandela Day is known as the day to give to others by spending 67 minutes making a difference.

Charities in Kwatsaduza also agree the day is set aside to make a positive change in other people’s lives.

The Tsakane Old Age Home has already received different donations from local organistions and businesses in and around Kwatsaduza.

Manager Phoko Makhubung says the centre always gets help from the community on Mandela Day.

He says other organisations spend their 67 minutes by cleaning the centre, feeding the senior citizens and ensuring the garden is green with different vegetables.

“We always get donations of blankets on Mandela Day from different organisations, individuals and companies,”says Makhubung.

KwaThema Stimulation Centre is also one of the charity centres that benefit on Mandela Day.

The centre will celebrate this year with the Kutlwano Social Organisation, which will be donating blankets to more than 80 children at the centre.

Founder of the stimulation centre, Miriam Mndebele, says the help the centre receives from the community keep the centre’s doors open.

She thanks all those who support local charity organisations in taking care of those in need.
