Importance of Mandela Day

Nelson Mandela called on everyone to do something to make the world a better place.

On Saturday many will celebrate his birthday and to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

His famous words are remembered, “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others”.

This was the day Mandela called out for people everywhere to celebrate his birthday on the idea that each person has the power to change the world.

The difference people can make in the lives of others can go beyond measure.

He was called the father of the nation because of the love and support he has shown to children.

Springs resident Bongani Vilakazi feels strongly about what Mandela stood for.

Mandela fought racism, increased HIV/Aids awareness and improved the lives of children.

“It is not just about the day, it is about reminding us we are all human and equal,” he says .

Mandela fought for humanity and unity all over the world.

The unity means all are equal irrespective of colour and race.

Bongani says we all benefit from the same principle.

With Mandela’s focus on children and education he travelled around the world to emphasise the importance thereof.

According to Bongani, everyone should invest in Mandela’s principle “to change the world for the better”.
