Leaking sewage causes concern

KwaThema - Leaking sewage has formed a dam in KwaThema between Extensions Five and Three.

The smell emanating from the sewage is forcing residents to keep their doors and windows closed.

The dam is also nearby a playground where young boys are seen playing soccer every weekend.

According to Extension Five resident Ntsiki Dlamini, the sewage is left to dam for a few days before the Ekurhuleni Metro drains it.

He says the smell is unbearable.

“It is a health risk and we worry about the children,” he says.

He believes the sewage could make people in the area sick.

Ward Councillor Wilson Busakwe says the leak stems from the main sewage line, which carries large volumes of waste.

He promised residents the metro will fix the problem soon.
