Residents donate blankets for worthy cause
All blankets collected during the recent Caxton Winter Blanket Drive were donated to MES Kempton Park on June 30.
In addition to the 40 blankets donated by Quintin Reynecke, from Clear Glass Kempton Park, the Arwyp Hospital donated an extra 30 blankets and Retha van As donated 10 hot water bottles.
Caxton would like to thank the public for their generous donations during the drive.
MES started as a feeding programme in 1986 which handed out food parcels to the homeless and unemployed community of Hillbrow.
In 1989, the project achieved Section 21 status with a board of directors. The organisation then started to address the pressing needs of the poor in the inner city of Johannesburg, especially the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of the homeless and unemployed, challenging individuals to take responsibility for their lives and become sustainable.
At the end of 2007, the CMR (Christian Social Council) of Johannesburg merged with MES. This means that the capacity for social services which MES provides increased dramatically. In 2008, MES embarked on duplicating its services to Port Elizabeth and Cape Town and recently to Kempton Park.
