Residents educated about e-Siyakhokha

KwaThema - About 25 volunteers conducted a door-to-door campaign to educate residents about the Ekurhuleni Metro's e- Siyakhokha payment services.

E-Siyakhokha is a free online service that allows home owners, companies, property managing agents and tenants to register so they can view, download and make payments for all utility accounts electronically from the comfort of their home or office.

This service also provides a full history of accounts from registration and payments made using this system, as well as the ability to interact with the Ekurhuleni Metro in the form of lodging complaints and queries electronically.

On Wednesday, volunteers from the nine wards in and around KwaThema were seen going from house to house educating residents about the easy ways to pay for municipal services.

According to the project coordinator, Humphrey Sibnade, volunteers also identify indigents and register them on the metro’s indigents database.

“There are residents who do not know they qualify to be indigents and the metro wants to ensure they are registered and get the benefits,” says Sibande.

He further explains volunteers also listen to any challenges faced by residents with regards to municipal services and refer them to relevant departments for assistance.

Masimini Section resident Andile Mtshali says the campaign helped him understand the e-Siyakhokha service.

“I was afraid to use it because I didn’t understand how it worked,” says Mtshali.
