Telkom will adhere to court ruling

Telkom denies claims it will continue its restructuring process despite the ruling made by the Labour Court on Wednesday (July 8).

Telkom spokesman Jacqui Sullivan says it is absolutely untrue and Telkom has no intention of going against the ruling.

Judge David Gush ordered that the dispute, which relates to information sharing, must be referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) within five days.

The judge also ordered that the resolution should be expedited.

Telkom agrees with the judge that a swift resolution of the dispute would be beneficial.

Sullivan says once the ordered dispute resolution has taken place, Telkom will be in a position to continue with its business turnaround process.

“While the judgment is disappointing, this is a temporary delay in the company’s turnaround strategy,” she says.

“To secure the future sustainability of the organisation, Telkom has to change the way it works and how it is structured.

“Telkom has engaged extensively with organised labour and will continue to follow all required processes to ensure we continually seek to serve both the best interest of the business, as well as our people.”
