Man robbed at gunpoint

Everest - A 20-year-old man was unharmed by two men who robbed him of his cellphone and cash.

The incident took place near the railway line in Gugulethu/Everest informal settlement on Wednesday at around 7pm.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the victim was at the Bakerton Taxi Rank waiting for a taxi to Springs, when he decided to go home instead.

He says, according to information provided to police by the victim, the man was crossing the railway line when he was approached by two men, one of whom pointed a firearm at him.

Ramphora says the robbers took the man’s cash and a cellphone before they fled the scene.

No shots were fired and police are investigating a case of armed robbery.
