Hundreds ‘steal’ flour after truck loses load

Hundreds of people helped themselves to bags of flour after a truck transporting the items lost its load on June 26.

The incident happened at 11.30am on Kingsway Road, near Daveyton.

“Within minutes, about 200 residents of the nearby informal settlement descended on the scene stealing the flour still on the truck and the flour lying on the ground,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“The single EMPD patrol vehicle on the scene was compelled to call for back-up as they could not handle the dozens of people who were gunning for the flour.”

EMPD and SAPS members arrived to hold off the public until a truck from Snowflake arrived to retrieve the lost load.

No injuries were reported and no arrests were made.

The road was cleared within two hours.
