Vita Nova Classic Concert on July 18

Vita Nova's financial challenges have captured the hearts of some of the top Ekurhuleni soloists and local choirs.

They have decided to lift their voices in song to raise funds by hosting a Vita Nova Classic Concert, on July 18, in an attempt to keep the centre running.

As part of the Nelson Mandela Day activities, the concert will be held at 2.30pm, at the KwaThema Central Methodist Church.

The entry is a donation of only R100.

After organiser of the event Tim Manana read several Vita Nova articles in the Addie, one of the bass singers, Reuben Mazibuko, informed him that his child is at the centre and asked for Tim’s help to try to raise funds.

Vita Nova Centre caters for a total of 108 helpless persons, with cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, autism, as well as mental and physical disabilities, from the age of three years, with the oldest currently being 73.

Some of the children at the centre are blind, deaf or HIV/Aids sufferers.

The concert forms part of a broader fund-raising project themed ”Sabela to Children’s Cry”, an initiative of the recently formed choral music centred company, Choratimes Corporation.

Local choirs lining up to perform at the concert include The Duduza Serenade, Artistic Chorale and Simply-Sopra Mezzos.

Talented local pianist Marry-Ann Phillips will perform, accompanied by well-established household soloists.

Tenors Charles Lesia, Phiwe Makaula and Fana Mlambo, bass/baritones Reuben Mazibuko and Tim Manana, sopranos Esther Mashiane and Nthabiseng Kettledas, and mezzo sopranos Tshepang Phakalitha and Lerato Dube.

Tim says they urge the community to buy tickets in support of the centre, to ensure a trouble-free stay for the helpless members of the public housed there.

Besides the concert, communities are also encouraged to buy a R5 Vita Nova stickers and wear it to show support.

The stickers are available at participating churches, community-based grocers and liquor outlets in Kwatsaduza.
