Two-year-old boy reunited with his mother after hijacking

Tsakane - Police are investigating a case of hijacking and attempted murder after two hijackers shot a man and fled with his two-year-old son.

The toddler was later found unharmed at an address in Malaza Street, Tsakane Extension Eight, at around 9pm on Friday.

Brakpan police spokesman Capt Joep Joubert says the boy’s parents were in a veld next to Tsakane Road at around 5pm loading clothes into their bakkie, when they were approached by two armed men.

He explains the boy was inside the grey Isuzu bakkie when the men hijacked it.

“The father was shot in the lower body by the men when he tried to open the door of the bakkie to grab his child,” says Joubert.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and at the time of publishing, was in a serious but stable condition.

The boy was reunited with his mother.

The bakkie has not been found and no arrests have yet been made.
