DCC hosts cricket day for community

Duduza - The Duduza Cricket Club (DCC) and the Dlantara Social Club hosted a cricket day at the Multi-purpose Centre in Mandela Drive last Tuesday.

DCC wanted community members to come together to enjoy a day of cricket.

Tshepo Mofokeng (32), head coach of DCC, wanted the community to witness the many young players who have developed their talents at the club.

“Parents and community members don’t come and watch cricket as much as they watch soccer, so we wanted to raise awareness that cricket is also fun,” says Mofokeng.

The DCC masters played against the Dlantara team, proving that cricket can be enjoyed by young and old alike.

Lebohang Makitla (23), who played for the Dlantara side, says it is important for children to explore different types of sports and see their elders play a sport that is not common to them.

Many members of the community were happy to see young people engaging in sports, rather than involving themselves in substance abuse and crime.

Lydia Pheko (45) was happy to see her son play for the first time.

“I’m surprised to see my son play so well, I never thought he was this good. I thank DCC for building our children and involving them in cricket,” she says.

The day ended with an award ceremony, where all the young players received medals for participating and trophies were handed out.
