The first Youth Career Expo in Langaville was held to educate youngsters about the careers which they can follow in the future.
On the day, representatives from different government departments shared information with the young people.
According to Ward Councillor, Mthumeleni Nditha, the career expo was not only aimed at delivering information to the youth, but also to advise them on how to live healthy lives.
Nditha says they saw the need to host the career expo to ensure that the youth understand the careers on which they want to embark after completing Grade 12.
The day was also aimed at encouraging many young people in Langaville to be tested for HIV.
“This Youth Month, we want to ensure that young people take responsibility for their lives,” says Nditha.
One of the young people who attended the career expo, Mpho Mashaba (23) says he learnt a lot on the day.
He says even though he has already chosen his career – he studies Electrical Engineering at Ekurhuleni East College – he received more information on other careers.
“With the information I have I am confident that I can help other young people to choose the right careers,” he says.
He also encouraged the youth to ensure that they stay healthy and get tested for different diseases this Youth Month.
“June is set aside for the young people to make a difference and bring positive change into their communities,” Mashaba concludes.
