Pioneers raise funds for school

KwaThema - The Laban Motlabe Comprehensive School Pioneers hosted a fun walk on Tuesday in commemoration of June 16.

Event organiser Tshidi Malapane says the fun walk began at Shabangu Street and ended at the KwaThema Sports Complex along Kgaswane Street.

She says the community, with children from as young as four, as well as senior citizens, participated.

“Our aim was to raise funds for the Laban Motlabe Comprehensive School and its library, and to promote health and fitness among the elderly,” she says.

She says they decided to celebrate and commemorate June 16 by giving back to the community.

Principal of the school, Orlando Mpatlanyane, is thankful to the former students and teachers who were present at the event to raise funds for the school.

Mpatlanyane says the youth needs to commemorate June 16 in order to remember the political landscape of the country in 1976.

“This initiative shows that by giving back one can improve the quality of education in our country,” says Mpatlanyane.
