Langaville family’s toilet still blocked

Langaville - While other residents of Langaville Extension 10 enjoy the use of flushing toilets, the same cannot be said for the Malathi family.

Residents were overjoyed when toilets were built in the area in 2010.

This joy came to a sudden stop for the Malathi family six months ago, when it became blocked.

Anna Malathi (58) says nothing has been done to fix the problem, despite the matter being reported to Ekurhuleni Metro officials.

Malathi explains that the situation forced her family of eight to build their own toilet at the back of their house.

“We can not depend on our neighbours, so we had to build a temporary toilet and hoped the problem would be fixed soon,” she says.

She is worried the toilet they are currently using is not good for her family’s health.

Ward Councillor Mthumeleni Nditha says he is aware of the problem.

“When the relevant people were sent to fix the problem at the beginning of the year, they were chased away by some of the residents after they boycotted the services delivered to them by the metro,”says Nditha.

Nditha has, however, reported the matter to the metro again and promised that people will be sent to attend to the blockage.
