Youth programme in place for Youth Month

A programme for Youth Month was put together by the Gauteng Provincial Government.

The theme ‘Youth Moving Gauteng City Region Forward’ is to commemorate Youth Month and the programme includes exciting activities for the youth of Gauteng.

The programme is centred around the sharing of information crucial for the development and empowerment of young people.

In a press release received from the Department of Education it states “the main focus of this programme is on the Expo at the Nasrec Exhibition Centre.”

GDE spokesman Phumla Sekhonyane says it is aimed at exposing the youth to information and opportunities available to them towards their own development and that of the province.

It will run from June 8 to 16 and will integrate various activities including exhibitions, discussions, culture and entertainment including movies, theatre and performances, sporting activities as well as a series of lectures by high profile speakers.

Provincial government has targeted the youth from all sectors to benefit from this programme and expects to reach an estimate of 60 000 young people in Gauteng.

As part of the launch on Thursday (June 4) K53 manuals for learner and driver licenses were handed over to 368 Grade 11 learners from schools across the province.

The goal behind this initiative is to ensure that Gauteng equips young people who are leaving school, with learners and driving skills, developing their driving abilities as a critical life skill which will enable them to be more active in the economy of the province.

On June 15 a youth parade for the future will take place in Soweto targeting 8 000 youth followed by the national event on the June 16 in Tshwane.
