Children educated on safety

Langaville - The Parliamentary Constituency Office (PCO) in conjunction with the African National Congresses Women's League visited the Vukukhanya Day Care Centre in Extension Eight on Monday.

Ward 79 councillor Ivy Nkosi says the aim of the visit was to promote Child Protection Week and to educate the children about safety in the community and the measures they can use to protect themselves.

“It brought so much joy to see the smiles of the children when they received the gifts we brought them,” says Nkosi.

Secretary of the PCO, Catherine Mphongose, says initiatives like these help fight child abuse in communities.

She advises parents to be vigilant, even with trusted family members.

Caretaker of the centre, Lizzy Ntshangase, says she is thankful to the organisations, as the initiative has impacted on the children’s lives.

She says most of the children are from disadvantaged backgrounds and the initiative will help the change the lives of the children and their parents.
