Inspiration drives local DJ

Kwatsaduza - Tumelo "Khoi" Radebe started playing music at the age of 13, after being inspired by meeting DJ Fresh at DJ Cleo's birthday bash, in 2002.

The talented DJ started playing for friends, at school functions, 21st birthdays and various other occasions, to build a strong foundation and recognition for himself.

His first major gig, he says, was with Coca-Cola, at Murray Park in Springs, where he had an opportunity to share a stage with Oskido, the living legend, and other artists within the Kalawa Jazzmi record label.

“I have opened and closed down sets for big names such as DinoBravo, DJ Kent, DJ Mamba, DJ Naves, MacG, Spikiri, Mahoota, Alaska, Trompies, DJ Sbu, BlackCoffee and Christos, just to mention a few,” he says.

His achievements include being the first black deejay ambassador for the Monster Energy drink, in 2011.

He says he rotates with the East Leisure Networking Sessions, which take place every Thursday, around Ekhuruleni.

In 2011 he played on set on SABC1’s Yo-TV children’s show, on Children’s Rights Day.

Currently he is on the Can Do! tour around the country, with the founder of 999 Music, Arthur Mafokate.

Radebe’s motto is ”Let’s misbehave”, which essentially means ”Let’s live.”
