Former nurse dies

KwaThema - Former nurse Virginia Selloane Simelane died on May 13, at the age of 74.

Simelane was born on Sepetember 12, 1940, in Payneville.

She attended St Johnson Primary School, and St Andrew’s Secondary School in Payneville were she matriculated in 1962.

Simelane obtained her nursing diploma in 1963 from St Monica’s College in Lesotho.

She began her nursing career at Vereeniging Hospital in 1963, and in 1965 moved to the Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto (now the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital).

In 1969, she left to work at the Edenvale Hospital, where she qualified as a staff nurse in 1970.

Simelane further practiced at nine hospitals, a clinic and three old age homes, until she retired in 1984.

At the time of her death, she was the Reverend of the Holy Trinity Apostolic Church.

Simelane is survived by her three sons, Kevin, Byron and Eugene, her daughter Monica, and 10 grandchildren.

The church service will be held at 7am tommorow (Saturday) at the Reformed Church in Ncwadi Street.

The cortège will leave for the Vlakfontein Cemetery at 10am.
