Nurses honoured at Pholosong

Tsakane - Nurses at Pholosong Hospital celebrated International Nurse’s Day last Friday.

Speaking about the purpose of the day, hospital’s deputy director of nursing, Fikile Mabuza confirmed that the day is celebrated to remember the good work done by nurses.

Nurse’s Day was first celebrated in 1954 on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale – the English nurse who is considered the founder of modern nursing.

Mabuza appealed to the nurses to do their work with love and to always treat patients with respect and dignity.

Delivering a keynote address, Nthabiseng Mariri, a nurse in the hospital’s labour ward, encouraged nurses to do their best irrespective of the difficult situations in which they sometimes have to work.

She reminded nurses about the importance of their jobs, which is saving the lives of their patients.

“When the going gets tough, just remember why you chose a nursing profession,” says Mariri.

Dr Pungie Lingham, the CEO of Pholosong, motivated the nurses to always ensure they wear a smile on their faces and bring hope to patients.

“Your work is to heal and bring hope to the sick and their families,” says Lingham.
