Youth eager to help other young people

Tsakane - To fight against youth unemployment, some young people use their time and skills to help others.

Inqaba yokulinda Youth Organisation is a non-profit organisation whose objective is to help the youth get skills that will help them find employment.

The organisation, which has six branches, was formed in 2003 and consists of members between the ages of 19-28.

Ntokozo Ngcwabe (24) who is a coordinator at the Tsakane Extension 15 branch says the organisation was formed after they realised that many young people live in poverty because they lack the skills that will help them find jobs.

He says to ensure that even those who cannot afford to further their studies after matric have the skills which they can use to get employment, his organisation offers free life and computer skills.

“We understand the struggles faced by young people in the townships,” says Ngcwabe.

Adding that the organisation also helps provide information about other programmes available to help youth build their future.

One of the young people who recently found employment in the organistion after completing the three month computer course, Sarah Gugu Zikalala (26) says the organisation helped her gain hope for the future.

She proudly says that the organisation helped her gain back her self confidence and provided her with better communication and computer skills.

“Today, I have a job which helps me look after my family,” she says.

She concludes by encouraging the youth to use all the opportunities provided to them by different local and government sectors such as the NYDA which help develop the unemployed youth.
