Primary schools challenge in art

Cartoon Network recently launched its 10th Animation Generation Competition.

The partnership with 3 025 primary schools include Pinegrove Primary School, Strubenvale Primary School and Veritas Preparatory.

The aim of the drawing competition is to promote the art of illustration and encourages imaginative creativity.

In a statement received from the Southern Europe and Africa for Turner Broadcasting System’s vice president Pierre Branco, it states “we are challenging primary school learners to explore their artistic talents while also having lots of fun.”

Learners will be challenged to truly flex their creative minds to tackle this educational, yet fun activity.

Over the last 10 years, Cartoon Network has brought children around the globe some amazing heroes and the theme for the competition is the “Next Hero”.

Learners are encouraged to design a brand new hero or heroine that will inspire South African children to be the best that they can be.

“Every child has a cartoon figure, which they admire, look up to, and aspire to be, so why not, as a child, use your imagination to design and invent your very own,” says Pierre.

It’s a unique initiative which aims to harness the passion of the viewers and contribute something back to the local communities in which they operate.

He challenges the learners to adopt heroic behaviour, by being a helpful civilian and generous towards others.

“We hope to encourage and inspire our viewers to unleash their creativity limited by nothing, but their imagination and we look forward to seeing the entries roll in,” says Pierre.

Amazing prizes up for grabs include iPads, Blackberrys, iPods and cash prizes for the top three winners.

The overall school with the most entries will receive a cash prize of R10 000.

The overall individual winner of the competition will have the opportunity to get his or her drawing animated and it will be showcased live on-air on Cartoon Network.

Entrants can enter in three age categories, between six and eight years, nine and 11 years and 12 to 14 years.

Drawings can be entered online at www.cartoonnetworkafrica.com/animationgeneration or via post to HDI Youth Marketeers, Animation Generation Competition Entries, Postnet Suite 331, Private Bag X51, Bryanston, 2021.
