Man killed in drive-by shooting

One man was killed and another seriously injured following a shooting along Geluksdal Road this morning (Thursday).

The pair, and another man, Peter Nare (59), were travelling to work together at 6.30am, when the occupants of a white VW Golf allegedly opened fire on them.

Nare was not injured in the incident.

The men, all of whom are from Tsakane, had been travelling in his silver Ford Fiesta.

According to Nare, he noticed the white Golf following them.

“Before I could see how many people were in the car, they fired shots at us and left the scene,” he says.

The man driving Nare’s car was shot in the upper body and seriously injured.

He was rushed to the Pholosong Hospital for treatment.

The 40-year-old man sitting in the passenger seat died on the scene.

Tsakane police spokesman Capt Petros Mabuza says a police officer, who was on his way to work when the shooting happened, stopped at the scene to investigate.

The motive for the shooting is still unknown.

Mabuza says no arrests have been made and police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.
