Tornado victims still waiting

Duduza - In October 2012 a number of residents in Masechaba suffered damage to their homes after a tornado struck the area.

A number of residents are allegedly still waiting for their homes to be fixed and the condition of some houses has deteriorated further.

One such resident is Thebinkosi Dlamini (27), who claims his house was damaged during the tornado.

According to Dlamini, the jagged cracks in the wall of his home were caused by the tornado.

There is now a visible hole just beneath the roof of his house.

Dlamini explained that heavy storms in October last year caused more damage, and made the hole even bigger.

A blanket has been used to cover the hole.

Dlamini’s concern is that his family will suffer in winter.

“This blanket doesn’t do much because the cold still comes in,” he says.

His family has approached the Ekurhuleni Metro about the problem several times, to no avail.

Dlamini just wants the cracks and hole repaired.

Comment requested from the metro was not received at the time of going to print.
