According to the spokesperson of the Ekurhuleni Metro, Themba Gadebe, pre-feasibility studies for a taxi rank in the area were conducted in 2011, and detail designs have now been completed.
“The procurement process for the appointment of the contractor for the construction of the taxi rank is at evaluation stage,” he says.
Gadebe explains that the metro’s Transport Planning and Provision Department is aware of the informal taxi rank operating from the corner of Spaarwater (known as Sonnerstraal) and Flamingo Roads, in Bluegumview.
This is opposite the newly built service station on the border of Tsakane and Duduza.
In his conclusion, Gadebe confirms it is the municipality’s responsibility to build a taxi rank.
