Don’t become a victim

Tsakane police spokesman Captain Petros Mabuza warns women to avoid walking alone at night, to avoid becoming victims of rape.

Mabuza says according to the Crime Pattern Analysis done on rape cases in the Tsakane policing precinct area, most rape cases occur in the evenings and take place in open veld areas and on the streets.

Here are some factors contributing to the crime:

n Fighting between partners at night, and the woman decides to walk back home alone.

n The risk taken by women who pay surprise visits to their boyfriends at night and then have to walk back home alone.

n The married couple’s quarrel at night, which sometimes results in the wife taking the children and walking to her parents` house.

Mabuza advises women to ensure they are always accompanied by someone when walking the streets at night.
