Movement exposes young artists

Ayishi' mic Movement is a local organisation which helps provide a platform for up and coming artists.

The movement was formed in 2008 by the unemployed youth of KwaThema.

Co-founder Vuyani Masilingane explained that they formed the movement to expose the talent of the Kwatsaduza youth.

He said they work with different artists such as singers, comedians and poets.

Being a singer who struggled to get his music taken seriously, Masilingane said he understands all the struggles facing aspiring artists.

“Our youth has talent, but no platform to showcase it,” he said.

Masilingane believes that not every young person will succeed by going to school, but one’s talent may open the doors of success.

He, however, encouraged the youth to get an education to ensure a brighter future.

“Talent alone can not guarantee success, but education is a ticket to a better life,” he said.

Mbandi Ndaba, who is also the movement’s co-founder, said the platform they provide to the youth will help young artists gain popular recognition.

“I understand the pain of having a talent, but having nowhere to showcase it,” said Ndaba.

He encouraged the youth not to lose focus and to keep dreaming big for their future.

Ndaba invited young artists from Kwatsaduza to take part in a talent show in KwaThema on April 26.The show will be held from 1pm, at the community park in Nhlengethwa Street.

“There is no entry fee and all artists are welcome,” concluded Ndaba.
