‘Fez the soulstar’ is making waves

Fezile "Fez the soulstar" Magubane (27) is a promising young DJ from Kwatsaduza.

Being a DJ plays a big role in Magubane’s career as an event manager, and also adds to his love of music.

“It may look easy on the outside, but it’s an industry with a lot of pressure,” he says.

Hip hop, house, RnB and Afrosoul dominate the dance floor at his gigs.

According to Magubane, having an education is important as you cannot rely on your talents alone.

“By acquiring tertiary education you will always have something to fall back on,” he says.

Magubane feels its time for growth and is currently focusing more on radio DJing.

“I recently performed alongside Metro FM DJ Paul Mtirara promoting house music and Valentine ballads,” he says.

Magubane adds there are a lot of challenges when it comes to event management, such as fussy clients, late payments and acts simply not arriving to perform.

“I advise young DJ’s who want to get into the industry to do research so they know what they are getting themselves into,” he says.

His life motto is: “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”.
