Taxi strike has ended

The taxi strike in Tsakane has come to an end.

Commuters were left stranded last Wednesday when taxis travelling to Dunswart were allegedly targeted by EMPD officials.

Chairperson of the Brakpan Taxi Association, Bongane Msiza, says he believes the EMPD and the SAPS were targeting taxis, as a number of these vehicles were confiscated, despite some of the drivers having permits.

According to Msiza, taxi owners fear approaching the EMPD as they are sometimes fined, despite having permits.Msiza apologises to commuters who were left stranded last week.

He adds the taxis are back on the road.

According to spokesperson of the Tsakane Police Station, Captain Petrus Mabuza, the absence of the taxis was the result of an Easter operation conducted by the SAPS and the EMPD.

The operation was in preparation for the Easter weekend, and unroadworthy vehicles were being stopped and removed from the roads.
