More pothole than road

A pothole along a busy road in KwaThema has been posing a danger to motorists for a number of years.

Resident Happy Dinah says the pothole has been a persistent problem along Tolashe Street, in Rest In Peace, despite it being fixed numerous times.

Dinah explains that the pothole is a danger, especially at night, as there are no lights in the street and the hole is not easily visible.

He adds when a pipe has burst, or after heavy rains, the pothole becomes water-logged, damaging cars that travel along the street.

According to Dinah, two accidents have occurred as a result of motorists having to swerve their cars in order to avoid hitting the pothole.

Dinah says community members tried to repair the road, but after heavy rains the sand washed away.

Ward 80 councillor Dora Mlambo says the pothole has been reported multiple times to the Department of Roads and Safety.

She explains that the hole first begins as a crack in the street, and then develops into a pothole.

Mlambo says she has reported the matter to the department to be investigated.
