Business office ransacked

No shots were fired.

A business in Nuffield was the target of five armed men at 11.05pm on Wednesday (April 1).

A security guard on duty was patrolling the area when he was approached by the group.

One of the the armed men ordered the guard to lie on the ground and started searching him.

Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says the robbers took the guard to the guardroom, where they checked the register to see if he was the only guard on duty.

They used shoelaces to tie him to a pole, and one of the robbers then made a phone call.

Ramphora claims there were 20 more suspects outside the premises, all of whom entered and ransacked the office.

The robbers allegedly used grinders to gain access to one of the offices, where they found cash in a safe.

The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, computers, a laptop, tools, a hard drive device, machinery, cameras and window frames.

Ramphora says they suspects tampered with the ignition of a vehicle parked outside the building, damaging it.

No shots were fired.
