Flooded ground KwaThema

The grounds behind Tlakula Secondary School were left flooded with water after a heavy storm took place last Thursday.

Resident Themba Masina says this problem has been a burden since the 2010 world cup and has never been fixed.

Masina adds there is a passage which leads from White City Section to the Masimini Section near the grounds which people can’t pass through because the ground is flooded.

According to Masina the floods are not the only problem residents are facing, a fence is also needed for security purposes.

Secretary from the Tsamaya soccer league, Danny Mashego says the flooded grounds are a problem which has been occurring for many years.

He explains when heavy rains flood the grounds they have to call the team coaches and inform them of the change of venue and move to a different venue which is not appropriate for players.

According to Mashego the municipality did not scrape the grounds evenly, which causes the water to be trapped and it cannot run down to the nearest storm water drain.

Mashego says this problems affects matches which are delayed and some even postponed.

Ward 78 Councillor, Thoko Gadebe says the ground behind Tlakula Secondary School is an informal ground.

Gadebe advises leagues that use the grounds to report the matter to the KwaThema Customer Care Centre who will report the service delivery matter to the relevant department.
