Ben ready for championships

Ben Sekoati from Duduza has been nominated to play in the National Pool Championships which will be held on the April 25.

Sekoati says she thought pool was about gambling without realising it would be a sport she will be competing in for the rest of her life.

She says in 2013 she met a guy in Springs at a pub who asked her to be his partner playing in the doubles pool championships.

According to Sekoati, she then proceeded to the Mpumalanga Ladies Premier League where she attained first position with 69 points.

Sekoati adds after her win she attended trials for the National Pool Championships were she was number four in the country meaning she had qualified for the championships.

“I am naturally talented to be a pool player despite it being a male dominated sport”, says Sekaoti.

She adds she does not have a coach like other players.

She has taught herself to play by reading books and logically thinking about the game.

Sekoati explains being a bread winner at home, looking after her younger sister has always motivated her to win the game.

According to Sekoati a Q-stick is very important and a player must look after it at all times.

In her conclusion she says pool is a gentle sport not a gentlemen’s sport.
