Kiddies Olympics in Duduza
The Department of Sport and Recreation hosted a Kiddies Olympics selection event at the Duduza Multipurpose Centre last Friday.
Senior Sports and Recreation Officer, Tumelo Selopyane says the aim of the event is to select young Olympians who will be later competing at the regional championships.
Selopyana also added they are preparing the young olympians for the regional games and encourage creche’s to promote sport from a young age.
He adds the children should be known from primary school level and their talent should be nurtured from early stages.
Event Co-ordinator,Sabelo Gumbi says this event is not just for physical development but also to help children communicate with each other and adults in a busy environment.
Member from the Siyaphambili Association in Duduza, Thandiwe Shumba says as an association of creche’s in our area we are delighted by what the department is doing.
Shumba says they were working hand in hand with all the creche’s in Duduza in training the children and preparing them for the event.
In her conclusion she says hopefully our children can grow both mentally and physically.
