Rape cases increase in Tsakane

Tsakane police say the number of rape cases reported to their police station in on the increase.

Captain Petros Mabuza, Tsakane police spokesman confirmed that the rape of young girls between the age of 11 and 13 years last week increased.

He said in most cases, the suspects have been arrested.

Mabuza appealed to the community to protect women and children.

“The future of this country depends on the hands of the children,” he said.

Adding that the police, in partnership with the local organisations, government departments and the community, will have a campaign to fight against rape and abuse of women and children.

Tips to avoid being the victim of rape

n Avoid walking alone late at night.

n Do not allow your child to walk alone to school, make sure they walk in groups.

n Always be aware of the whereabouts of your children.

n Let children inform or report any kind of abuse to teachers or adults they trust.

n Speak to your children about puberty.

n Parents must monitor their children’s behaviours such as eating habits and moods swings.
